PH makes the /f/ sound — like the letter F!

PH Sound Rule
When you see the letters
P and
H together, they make ONE sound:
/f/
You do NOT say "p" + "h" separately. Say it like the letter
F.

Step 1 – Teeth
Put your top teeth gently on your bottom lip.

Step 2 – Blow
Blow air through your teeth. Say "fff…"

Think of blowing out candles — gently push air between your teeth and lip. That's the /f/ sound!

The CK Sound
CK makes the /k/ sound — like the letter K alone!

CK Sound Rule
When you see
C and
K together, they make ONE sound:
/k/
CK usually appears
after a short vowel (a, e, i, o, u) at the end of a word.

Step 1 – Tongue
Put the back of your tongue up against the roof of your mouth.

Step 2 – Pop!
Drop your tongue quickly. A small pop of air comes out. Say "k!"

Think of the sound when you pop a balloon — a quick, crisp
"k" sound from the back of your throat!
